Abstract
It had been recognized that the hemangioma of the synovial membrane is a rare condition and seldom reported in the literature.
This case involves an 18 year old male, who had suffered from intermittent pain and swelling of the left knee joint for 6 years.
Just before admission fresh blood was aspirated from the left knee joint.
No significant abnormal findings were present in the roentgenologic and laboratory studies.
An operation was performed and the involved synovium of the suprapatellar region of the left knee, which contained grape-like masses that were composed of distended and tortuous blood vessels, was totally excised.
Microscopic diagnosis was cavernous hemangioma of the synovial membrane.
The postoperative course has been satisfactory showing no recurrence and improvement of the limited motion of the knee joint.
